Now here is a piece of news I never thought I’d be writing about. Drummer, founding member & leader, Mike Portnoy has part ways with his band of 25 years Dream Theater. Having asked the band for a break, they made the decision to carry on without him. The momentum they have built up in the last few years is impressive & they are now one of the biggest progressive rock acts in the world so it is understandable but it’s hard to imagine them without Portnoy’s silly beard & superhuman drumming ability. Let me be the first to say “FUCK YOU, AVENGED SEVENFOLD! THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!”.
Bay Area thrash titans Exodus have released a video for the track Downfall take from their new album, Exhibit B: The Human Condition. The song is excellent, the video is pretty good & Gary Holt hates epileptics so enjoy. Watch it here & don’t drool on the keyboard!
Their last album was a well-received return to form following Dave Wyndorf’s near-fatal overdose in 2006.
Wacken 2010 might have just finished but the lineup for next year is already shaping up. German power metal legends, Blind Guardian will be playing their only German date of 2011 at the world’s biggest metal festival. Other bands confirmed are Mike Muir’s crossover kings, Suicidal Tendencies, power metal collective Avantasia & Finland’s cello based Apocalyptica. Wacken 2011 will run from the 3rd – 6th August.
American grindcore mentalists, Cephalic Carnage are premiering their new song taken from their upcoming album Misled by Certainty which is out on Relapse Records at the end of August. Check it out here.
